In my opinion, the narrator, Nick Carraway, is untruthful and off track. He specifically says that "reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope". This implies that he is unbiased. An unbiased narrator is perfect for the book because it would be told in the right way, exactly how it happened. However, Carraway contradicts himself. He proceeds to say "If personality is an unbroken series of unsuccessful gestures, the there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life, as if he were related to one of those intricate machines thast register earthquakes ten thousand miles away." Carraway has a great appreciation towards Gatsby and looks at him as a model. Therefore, he is biased towards Gatsby, contradicting what he said before about "reserving judgment". Personally, I can relate to Nick Carraway because I sometimes contradict myself, as well.
