What makes a good or successful painting? I think for a painting to be good or successful it has to have some element of uniqueness to it. I feel like painting realistically is great and cool to look at, but I think for a painting to be quality it needs an element that makes it imperfect, or different from the subject. It could be colors or a different background that couldn't actually appear in nature (like above, the background seems exaggerated) but something that gives the painting depth or meaning. I also think however that different styles or paintings appeal to different people.
Yes, I agree that a painting should have some uniqueness to it because then it won't ever leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
