I think that a good or successful painting needs to be what the artist wanted to create and that it is something that they are proud of. I also think that a good/successful painting should sometimes break the rules of art to create something unique.

I think this painting shows what the artist wanted to create. Wiley is known for created portraits of contemporary black sitters on the visual of European art history to question stereotypes about identity and representation. It was something that he really wanted to create because it meant a lot to him, all of his paintings do.
I agree that a successful painting should be something that the artist is proud of. I also agree that it's okay for the artist to break the rules.

ReplyDeleteI agree that a good painting is something the artist is proud of and wanted to create. I think that good paintings often have symbolism, like you mentioned with Kehinde Wiley. However, I think that the rules of art are also important to consider when painting because following the basics can lead to growth in more difficult techniques. I agree that paintings should be unique because art is self expression.
