What makes a good or successful painting?
I think a good or successful painting includes different elements and principles of art, such as unity, but more importantly just generally looks as if it was completed with attention to detail and care. If all aspects of the painting fit together nicely it looks less rushed, more cohesive, and is more pleasing to look at. I think good paintings are cleanly done enough so that one can tell what the painting is supposed to represent. I think oftentimes good paintings include some aspect of symbolism or different painting techniques, such as adding texture like we will be doing in our upcoming project. One painting I think meets my own criteria for a good painting is Vincent Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait. I like how each brush stroke is very detailed and makes it interesting. The colors seem to all fit together nicely and you can tell the painting took a lot of time and focus to create.
I agree that there should unity sometimes, but I also disagree because art doesn't always have to follow the rules
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the painting shouldn't look messy, but I also disagree that the painting has to represent something.
