Introducing Artemisia Gentileschi, by Caroline Berl

 

Artemisia Gentileschi was born on July 8, 1593 in Rome, Italy. She worked/lived in Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, and London. Gentileschi was an Italian Baroque painter, which was a style of painting that was popular in Europe during the early 17th century. She was the first woman to be a member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno, an art academy in Florence. She was best known for her dramatic paintings and skills in naturalism and handling color.
