Two things I learned from Carina's Art History Movie about Optical Art is:
1. It originated in Germany and became a popular movement in 1960-1970 with popular artists including Bridget Riley, Carlos Cruz Diez, and Victor Vasarely.
2. It contains very abstract patterns with contrasts, foregrounds, and backgrounds to almost try to trick, confuse, and excite your mind.
